The Lumina Program

There was a very interesting article in the Suburban Journal this week about the Lumina program offered by BJC Hospice. The program offers hospice patients an opportunity to record their life story, in their own words, as a special gift to pass on to friends and family after they are gone. Patients are assisted by a volunteer who chronicles the reminiscences. I can't think of a more personal and satisfying heirloom to leave behind. I wish there was such a program when my mother was dying. I'm sure she would have loved the opportunity, and my family would have gladly engaged in the process. We all have memories, thankfully, of loved ones who have passed on. But, as time fades, so do the memories. Having them documented in such a personal fashion keeps those recollections vivid for generations to come. Lumina, thanks for the memories!
